Interestingly enough, Apple did pull their paid app designed to locate sex offenders, but they still do have the free version available to download. This version is called the Offender Locator Lite, which will allow you to locate sex offenders in your area. Reasons weren’t specified as to why the original paid application was pulled, but it is said to be for legal reasons. It is also suggested that possibly the state of California won’t allow the sale of this type of criminal information to make a profit, which is precisely why the paid application turned out to be illegal.
Nonetheless, if you are still looking to keep tabs on any offenders in your area to keep yourself safe, then the free version is always available. It seems to be more of a public service type of application, which will allow you to have free features to see which registered sex offenders do live in your area. This has become even more in demand, especially when you see all of the websites that are available for the same purpose. With the notoriety of the iPhone and The App Store, I would say that it is definitely not a good day to be a sex offender since it is more popular than ever to track them down!
