You may be one of the many people on the planet using Twitter, MySpace and Facebook on a daily basis, especially if you are an iPhone user. One of the most popular features of the iPhone is the fact that it gives instant access to these popular social media websites through a number of applications. A recent report has been released on this same subject discussing whether or not the government is monitoring these social networking sites. Some of the reasons that the government may do this is for copyright infringers, political protesters, or tax delinquents. There has been a lawsuit filed to protest this government monitoring on the Internet, but it is still undecided.
It seems that many revenue agents have been looking for tax delinquents through social media sites, including Facebook and MySpace. The government does seem to be a part of these searches, especially since there were some undercover police officers found on Facebook in Massachusetts undertaking an investigation. If you are someone who is squeaky clean with no legal issues, then there is absolutely nothing to worry about. Still, many people are concerned with the fact that the government may be using social media sites to infringe privacy.
