It happens to the best of us, and I know that we have all been there from time to time when we bump into people that we really don’t want to have a conversation with. For me, it has been happening even more recently because I moved back to the town that I went to high school in. I have never had the experience of seeing old classmates, until now. That can be good or bad, but mostly bad for me. Not because I hate anyone I went to school with, but because I hate having awkward conversations about where your life has been going for the past decade when you really were hoping just to buy a gallon of milk and be on your way.
My new plan of attack is that I have been wearing my iPod in a lot of public places, like the grocery store, so if I see someone semi-familiar that looks like they could say hi to me, I will just put my head down, listen to my music, and keep on shopping. This may seem kind of rude, but when you tell people over and over your career path for the past 10 years, it gets pretty old. I think that you would do the same.
