Family Vacations

by Betty on June 5, 2009

Summer is upon us, and I have to say that there is absolutely nothing better, or worse, then driving cross-country with my husband, children, and dogs. A few months ago, when it was still colder, and apparently our brains were frozen too, we all made a family decision to drive across country to visit my sister in California for our vacation. Interesting. After spending eight hours in the car on our first day, we were already about to claw each other’s eyes out.

The only thing that really saved me is that all of my children turned on their iPods and zoned out, and that lasted about four hours. So what did we do with the other four? We tried to play some of those road trip games, but they really weren’t as fun as I remembered from my youth. Then we spent a long time stressing out that the dog may use the bathroom in the car because he looked so nervous, and towards the end, my children finally fell asleep. I am sure that it will be completely rewarding by the time that we get to our destination, with only eight more hours to go… I really don’t think that we thought this plan through when we were planning our vacation, and next time we must fly!
